Evaluating the Preparoty Process
Technical Preparation
Effective practise routines I used for warming up my voice were singing "Bella mama" on a scale ascending and descending. Following tongue twisters which I'm used to because I do it in acting before a performance. Tongue twisters such as "Mama made me mush my M&Ms" and "She sells seas shells on the sea shore" were used to to improve my phrasing of words and articulation while singing. I rehearsed in front of my mother in the morning on the day of my recital in which she said my voice is " good" and "distinctive" which shows in my preparation I used an accompanist . Following into the afternoon before the performance Charlie let us have one final warm up by singing the vow sounds while dong a scale ascending to warm up our voices before we each perform.
I feel like this preparation was semi successful in improving phrasing for the majority of songs in my recital except My 9ine and Contolla. However I think thats down to a lack of rehearsals on those particular songs where they both have a overload of rhyming and Controlla lyrics is patois (Broken English) suggesting its not the failure of my tongue warm ups for the unsuccessfulness of my phrasing but more to do with the lack of rehearsing.
Physical Preparation
My physical preparations were successful as I made sure my muscles were relaxed by loosing up my shoulders and turning my neck left and right in order to eliminate any tension above the neck. I also done a cheek massage with fingertips to warm up the muscles in the mouth. Before the performance its self I had a upright and straight posture as a concentration technique and to control my nerves however I think I should of treated my body with water to help with nerves through the performance not just the beginning . I feel like my physical preparation was definitely successful to an exstent because it did make me much more confident and relaxed to go on and be on stage and perform my five songs. However I feel my success would of lasted longer through my performance if had brought water because my confidence started to deteriorate with a dry mouth and I started thinking It wouldn't be possible to hit higher notes .
How successful it went overall
Reflecting on my performance I received constructive criticism on phrasing words especially in the songs when the words rhyme . Furthermore wish I had a bottle of water because my mouth started to get dry halfway into my solo performance. Also I believe having a bottle of water would definitely decrease the chance of false starts because it would help to control nerves. This leads me to the conclusion that my solo performance was semi successful due to the fact I had five false starts for the last two songs three false starts in My 9ine and two in Controlla suggesting the lyrics for both song was rehearsed enough. The lyrics were thoroughly learnt however the technical challenges in the way the lyrics were written as a lot of word sounded the same due to a overload rhyming throughout both songs making it confusing as lines can get mixed up in wrong orders especially if not rehearsed on a daily. Despite the false starts the audience was entertained was entertained by the rhythm / groove of the each individual song and they wanted to dance even when the song had to get replayed due to a false start.
